Proceedings of the III MAP-FGM International Seminar: Female Genital Mutilation / Cutting: Institutional Integrated Responses

The team of the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL), Clara Carvalho, Ricardo Falcão and Marta Patrício, had coordinated, edited and translated the proceedings of the III International Seminar of the European project MAP- FGM, held in the Portuguese capital on September 27th and 28th, 2017 in which the Wassu Foundation participated.

The book Female Genital Mutilation / Cutting: Institutional Integrated Responses, is available in Portuguese and English and contains 12 chapters with contributions from experts from Europe and Africa, including the chapter written by our director Dr. Adriana Kaplan, Surveys on knowledge, attitudes and practices of FGM in The Gambia. In addition to the presentations by the Portuguese Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality, Marcelino Catarina, and Professor Fatou Sarr Sow, the following chapters focus on the combat and prevention models of FGM/C, the implementation of the Conventions of Human Rights and Treaties in West Africa, and institutional responses to female genital mutilation in Portugal, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Sierra Leone
