Proceedings of the II Academic Seminar MAP-FGM: Researching Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting

Researchers Els Leye and Gily Coene, were the editors of Researching Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting, a compilation of the presentations made in the sessions of the II International Academic Seminar of the MAP-FGM project, which took place in Brussels during June 2017.

This book focuses on the fundamental role of research in the prevention and abandonment of female genital mutilation/cutting and provides examples of qualitative and quantitative methods applied by experts from Belgium, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ireland, Mali, Nigeria, Norway, Portugal, Senegal , Sweden, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, in their respective jobs.

The publication, aimed at academics from different disciplines, students and public policy makers, revolves around topics such as the medicalization of FGM/C, the association between this practice and child marriage, the estimated prevalence of FGM/C, the uses and interpretations of survey data, attitudes and experiences in field work, male participation, and research methods on behavior change with regarding FGM/C, among other topics related to research.
